festival of light 2011

office celebrated deepavali way earlier before the actual day on 26 Oct. we had dinner at la bodega, jalan telawi 3. i thought we would be eating spanish food. no... committee catered indian food.

we were asked to dress to the theme, ie to don the traditional attire and "fight" for the best dress! i have always wanted to buy saree. but the price always stop me. this year, i went shopping quite last minute. dinner was yesterday, friday, and i only went shopping on tuesday night. hahaha!

mum said there is a shop having a 70% sale in kajang. went in the shop, so many type to choose from. saree, punjabi suits etc. i told the lady boss that i wanted a top & a skirt. she said, "oh, lengha". and she chose one with 70% tag. looked nice & classy, i tried it. what's the price after discount? RM170. before discount?? RM 570! wahhhhhhhh.....

#1 : the choli

#2 : the skirt

#3 : everthing hand-stitched!

the lengha was my size, just needed some alteration for the top & skirt as both were a bit loose. the lady boss was kind enough to alter immediately for me although they were rushing for deepavali next week. we waited 30mins in the shop, continued browsing the many type of traditional indian costumes.

it was raining yesterday evening when we were about to leave for dinner. and i was rushing tying one saree after another. i am no expert, but they others still asked for my help. i asked them, "you trust me?" hahhaa... and i was the last to change and quickly rush to the restaurant. while on the way in the car, i started to put on my bangles & bindi. it was that rush and i didnt even check whether it was properly stuck on my forehead!

#4 : bangles & bindis

most of them were in sarees and punjabi suits. only a few in lenghas. but their lenghas choli were "longer" and covered their tummy. i realised mine was the shortest, and i showed the most tummy (aka FAT)! i didnt even bring out the scarf that came along with the lengha.

#5: me in lengha

only realised that i didnt take a full shot of myself in lengha. if i had more time in the office, i would have taken a picture of myself in full. i didnt do it at the restaurant. paiseh to ask the others to help me take photo. hahaha!

and the fight for the best dress began. we were asked to parade ourselves in front of the judges. and i was surprised i got a lot of supports! hahaha. and i was one of the 6 finalist. while waiting for the judges to finalise the result, we changed to our skit costumes.

5 teams fight for points and RM1000, RM 750 & RM 500. my team was 2 points away from RM500. so near yet so far. never mind, we will revenge during xmas! and then boss announced the best dress result.

i was already in my jeans and t-shirt when i was announced as the winner!! sweeeeeeeeeeeet! RM 500 in the pocket! and the lengha is officially FREE!

#6 : show me the $$$
