my 3rd kiwanis hunt

last weekend, we went to the 27th kiwanis treasure hunt. this year theme was "crouching tiger, hidden treasures". it was a 3D2N hunt, from KL to Lake Kenyir, Terengganu. my last hunt with kiwanis was in year 2002. after a long hiatus, i decided to join the hunt this year. and also to introduce the kiwanis hunt to my sisters, which were the driver & the navigator. peggy was back from a 4 years break. we were quite rusty after a long break. hahaha!

friday night was spent cutting and sticking all the stickers on the car. they printed all stickers in a big banner, instead of pieces by pieces. painful task if done alone. hahaha. mum and younger sister helped to plan where to stick.

#1 : team 19 ready to go!

we left home at 520am, to pick friends before heading to kolej bandar utama, where we would be flagged off. as per scheduled, we were off at 7am. first sector was in TTDI. and then i forgot where we were. i didnt take note as i was too engrossed with the questions. i just saw signboards and more signboards. when no questions time, we tried to solve the treasure questions.

we only managed to crack the clues for 2 treasures. another 2 treasures...we could only guess. decided not to buy. dont want to waste money!

after some areas in kl, we headed to karak highway and turned into temerloh. and turned here and there... i didnt know where i was again. we were at the last sector of the questions. the time was 1.30pm. we were supposed to submit by 2.30pm. an hour to spare??? err...this was something new to us, as most of the time, we had to rush during the last sector!! this time, we had so much time, and yet we had no idea what were the answers. we did what we do best. hantam! hahahaha.

we submitted by 2.07pm, and had our lunch inside the car. we ate dumplings. yum yum. luckily we packed lunch because along the way, there was not food. all malay stalls, but most were closed.
we had to drive another 200+km from the place where we submitted our questions to lake kenyir. no highway. trunk road all the way.

we left at 2.30pm and reached the hotel at about 5.30pm. 3 hours... crazy! and we luckily to get a room, facing the lake. awesome view! but we had to walk quite a distance from our room to the ballroom for our meals. we were given 2 dinners, 2 breakfast and 1 lunch during our stay there.

#2 : view from the lobby

after checked-in, we went for our dinner. we wanted to swim when we saw the awesome pool, but we were too tired. that night, we signed up for half day excursion to Lisar Waterfall & Herbal Island. another group of 4 joined us. one of the participant was my sister's yoga/bellydance student. all 8 us bargained all out for a good package. and we managed to lower the price, although the manager said it was FIXED price. happy happy.

#3 : name tag during the stay there

#4: Lasir Waterfall

we were off to lasir waterfall at about 930am. it was a hot sunny day. the water was cooling on the hot morning. the hike up to the waterfall was easy. all steps. and there was a hanging bridge there too! after photo session at the bridge, we quickly went down to the waterfall and picked the best spots before others arrived. dipped into the cold water.

then we proceeded to herbal island. we were the only guest there at that time. timing was perfect on that day. we were first at both places. no disturbance until we left. hehehe. first half of sunday was gone, and we went back to hotel ballroom for our lunch. and back to the room to rest. i didnt sleep. i sat at the balcony, enjoying the lake breeze, while waiting to go for a swim before dinner.

we were required to be punctual for the opening ceremony. or else, we would be locked out until the opening ceremony ended. all were there before the door was opened at 6pm. how i wish all the wedding dinners can start as punctual as this. it was a very glowy opening. the backdrop glowed in the dark. awesome!

we chose a table for 4. there were only 2 special tables for 4 person, and another team took the other table. both tables were labelled #29. us & the other team had breakfast together this morning. hehe. what a coincidence. we were at the "same" table again during dinner. we were smiling at each other when we saw each other from afar. i told them, "lucky us! we shall win the table draw tonight". and we did! we won a cap each. adidas, Fifa 2010 edition.

and answers were released after dinner. we calculated our score. disappointed with our score. it was not even half of the max points. max was 120. we scored only 49. how to win leh? no hope already. we still have to wait for the lucky draw result as we had bought 15 tickets.

result for the hunt was released. only 18 teams were rewarded. hai...lagi no chance. 18th place, with a score of 44 points, team 89. my jaw dropped. ah? i rubbed my eyes. i asked my sister," did i see correctly? 44 points at 18th??"... three of us were stunned. quickly did another round of calculation. only 3 of us were at the ballroom because my eldest sister was not feeling well and went back to the room to rest.

we calculated our score again. we were either at 46 or 49 points max! we waited for them to announce 17th. not us. then 16th. not us too. both teams were at 47 points. then 15th, we saw our names on the projector, with the score of 49. shocked! really shocked!!!! we quickly ran up the stage to collect our prizes! once back to the table, we laughed so hard! we could not believe that we actually won. the 3 of us could not stop laughing until we reached our room. no luck with lucky draw. but the 15th placing was good enough to make us happy!!

our prize? 1 rice cooker, 1 coffee maker, 1 oven toaster, 1 portable dvd player and last but not least, RM 400 sushi-kin vouchers! oh hoooooooooooo!!!

#5 : our "treasures" from the hunt

it was a fruitful hunt this time round. we had not been winning since........i forgot. a good reward after a long long drive. will we go back to kiwanis hunt? definitely! will we go back to lake kenyir? not in the coming few years.
